This 2021 edition will be unique in many respects. The unprecedented crisis faced by players in the food service industry over the past year has encouraged chefs to engage in solidarity actions and to show extraordinary flexibility. As an echo to these social and environmental approaches, this year the Bocuse d Or is introducing the Bocuse d Or Social Commitment Award that will be presented to a team for their social
involvement in areas related to food and catering. The health crisis has significantly affected the 4 continental selecting events that were due to take place in 2020. Thanks to the determination of the IOC and the involvement of the local partners, it was possible to maintain the European selecting event that was held in Tallinn (Estonia), where the best talents from 16 countries demonstrated wonders of creativity. Due to
the cancelling of the 3 other continental events, the IOC convened a committee of chefs and decided to select the participants for the final based on their ranking in the 2018 editions. The 2021 edition of the Bocuse d Or final is eagerly awaited and will be packed with excitement and emotions, with the pleasure of being at long last able to get together and share our common passion, cuisine.
The Bocuse d Or 2021 promises to be rich in novelties and more than ever tuned to the societal trends in the food service industry. New modes of catering have appeared in the wake of the health crisis. As a result, the contest has introduced a new take-away test to replace the plated test. The prestigious contest continues to renew itself to reinforce its role as a laboratory of excellence and inspiration for the food service of tomorrow.
REFLECTING ON A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD
Chefs are real enthusiasts. Cooking is an art, and our chefs feel the vital urge to express themselves, to live their passion. We have demonstrated both flexibility and agility to maintain the objectives of the contest by adapting the dates, taking into consideration the different health requirements all over the world, while maintain a similar level of requirements.
