1972 On February 10, 1972, Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation.

The Federal National Council (FNC) was established as the fourth of the five federal authorities in the UAE s constitution.

1974 Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan commences the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union in the presence of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi in Abu Dhabi on June 1, 1974.

1981 The establishment of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE at a summit held in Abu Dhabi in 1981.
